"T-They gave me a vial of medicine and instructed me to inject it into her," the doctor stammered but answered honestly.

"What kind of medicine?!" Edward asked nervously as soon as he heard the word "medicine."

The doctor shook his head. "I don't know. They didn't tell me. But based on my years of medical experience, it should be a slow-acting anesthetic."

"A slow-acting anesthetic?"

"Yes, this type of drug gradually reduces resistance. Although Ms. Christian is skilled and is an excellent kickboxer, even the strongest person wouldn't be able to resist if this anesthetic is administered for a long time." the doctor nodded.

"Wouldn't the anesthetic harm her unborn child? Are there any other risks to her?" Edward asked, feeling the danger in the doctor’s words. He managed to control himself and refrained from grabbing the doctor by his collar.

After some thought, Edward realized the doctor probably had no reason to lie. After all, the latter wanted to protect his family.

"That's good! Remember, your family will stay alive and safe as long as Ms. Christian stays alive and safe, too!" He paused and continued with a threat, "We may not be as ruthless as those people, but we believe in an eye for an eye."

"I understand, I know!" the doctor quickly responded, "But what are you going to do? Do you want me to help rescue that young lady? It's difficult because two formidable armed guards are at her door."

Alexander’s voice sounded through the earpiece, “Edward, check your phone, and tell him to confirm if it was this guy.”

Edward’s phone vibrated as it received a photo. The man in the photo had a faint and not-so-friendly smile. Puzzled, Edward noticed the doctor looking at him.

Then Edward showed the photo to the doctor and asked, “Is he the person you met?”

The doctor curiously took a step forward, then cocked his head as he studied the photo. He revealed a scared expression and took two steps back. “That’s him!”

Surprised, Edward turned away and touched his earpiece. Alexander’s sigh sounded. “All right, come back now.”

“Yes, sir,” Edward answered, then turned to the doctor. “About what happened tonight…”

“Don’t worry! I promise I won’t tell a soul,” the doctor quickly interjected, making a swearing gesture with one hand.

Edward threw him a deep look and knew the doctor would not dare to break his promise.

‘If he does, he’d be risking his own life.’

Edward turned around and pulled his mask over his face before vanishing into the night.

The doctor stood in a daze and looked around his empty house, thinking, ‘It used to be lively, but now it’s just me.’

He weakly flopped onto the couch and let out a heavy sigh.

The car was spacious enough for the man to relax and stretch his legs. However, he could not conceal the dark circles under his eyes—he was too exhausted.

“Alex, that man is…” Edward could not help but ask.

The person in the photo looked familiar at first glance, and Edward later remembered Alexander had once dealt with him before.

‘If he’s behind this, the situation will be tricky.’

“It’s him.” Alexander pinched the bridge of his nose and sounded husky as he lowered his gaze. He guessed it was him, and the doctor’s answer only confirmed his speculation.

“How could it be him? If so, wouldn’t it mean the organization's mastermind is…” Edward shuddered.

“What are you going to do now that he’s dead?” Mike was somewhat upset. “Didn’t you want to use him as a bargaining chip?”

“Help me take care of something, okay?” Mike went straight to the point.

Roused from his sleep, Alexander raised his brow and yawned. “What is it?”

“A body,” he said simply.

Alexander was shocked. After two seconds of silence, he chuckled. “Some request, that is.”

“I have no other options. It’s not just any dead body, after all. I fear spreading the virus if I don’t handle it properly.”

Rhea had injected her virus into the “boss,” and he had probably died from it. Mike knew he would face problems if he buried the body hastily.

‘Another virus!’

Alexander was alarmed when he heard that word again.

He moved his arms, stretched his muscles, and drew a long breath, thinking, ‘I feel amazing!’

Shortly after, Dominic got up and put on clean clothes and shoes. Then he went to the bedroom next door and was pleased to see it was as clean and tidy as his.

After leaving the room, he took in the refreshing scents of his herbal plants in the backyard and felt reborn. He then crossed the living area and heard a commotion up ahead. He had not heard such lively noise in the estate since the outbreak. It sounded pleasant to him.

As he reached the door, he saw Galen standing in the hallway, diligently wringing a towel. Although the boy’s hands were small, he exerted all his strength.

After hanging the wrung towel, he passed a clean one to Austin, who stood before a stool. There, the servants lined up and waited for their turn to sit on it and receive acupuncture treatment from Austin.

It deeply moved Dominic, and he was overwhelmed with an indescribable feeling. He wanted to express his feelings, but not a word left his mouth.

Galen sensed the older man’s presence and looked over his shoulder, shouting happily, “Grandpa!”

The little one threw the towel into the bucket and hurried over.

“Hey, little champ!” Dominic happily bent over and carried Galen, rubbing his bearded face against the latter’s cheek.

The boy giggled and grabbed Dominic’s beard with both hands.

Dominic felt even more delighted when he looked at Galen beaming. However, the older man intentionally widened his eyes, saying, “How dare you pull my beard again, you little rascal?!”

Galen held Dominic’s beard laughingly. Then he rubbed and released Dominic’s beard before stroking it. “Okay, I’ll stop now.”

“I’m fine! I’ll just observe, okay?” Dominic said kindly, shaking his head.

Austin was surprised and nodded. Then he concentrated on his treatment.

Although the servants had been ill for quite some time, their symptoms were not severe, and only the sickest ones occasionally threw up blood. Since they had proper provisions, the virus did not take a heavy toll on their lives.

That morning, Austin told them he would perform acupuncture on them based on an ancient medical text. However, the servants had to wait for their turns patiently.

They lined up as Austin told them, and Galen even came to lend a helping hand. Everything went smoothly, and the estate seemed lively again.

Meanwhile, Dominic sat on a chair, wanting to hold Galen in his arms, but the little one struggled free and climbed off the older man. “Grandpa, sit here!”

Galen patted Dominic’s arm soothingly, then ran back toward the basin to continue wringing the towels.

Dominic looked at the two busying themselves for a while. He could no longer take it and went to help. Austin saw him coming over and hastily said, “Y-You don’t have to help, okay? I can handle it.”

“Huh?” He was somewhat puzzled and carefully went inside.

Edward was the first to enter. He checked the place and said in astonishment, “It’s empty!”

Alexander immediately entered and saw no one there—Cameron had been relocated.

“It could be a trap!” Alexander lowered his voice, saying, “Retreat.”

Shocked, Edward quickly caught on and escorted Alexander back to the garage. However, unlike before, the garage was bright when they emerged from the secret room.

The garage was empty without a car, and one could take in the situation with one glance. Rhea sat calmly on a chair and smiled as if waiting for them.

“You guys sure moved fast, didn’t you? Anyway, I’ve been waiting for quite some time,” she spoke while casually checking her nails.

“That’s patient of you.” Alexander chuckled coldly.

“The feeling’s mutual.” Rhea chuckled, dismissing his mockery. “You’re quite a patient person as well. Don’t you think your mask is unnecessary, Mr. Russell?”

She knew who he was and might have set everything up to trap him. Even so, Alexander did not remove his mask and said, “Just cut to the chase. What do you want?”

“I want to collaborate with you,” Rhea dropped her smile and said as she looked up thoughtfully.

“I have resources and expertise while you have money and workforce. Together, we can potentially outperform the organization." Rhea stood up, her eyes full of hope.

Alexander chuckled. “Did you tell that to Mike too?”

“Of course!” Rhea did not try to hide it and smiled disdainfully. “Still, he’s useless. You, on the other hand, are different. You’re wealthier, more powerful, and also smarter than him!”

Her compliment failed to please Alexander as he asked, “Where’s Cameron?”

“Somewhere safer, of course. The house isn’t some heavily fortified prison—anyone can easily break in. Keeping him here was just a temporary measure. Besides, I told that idiot, Mike, about this place.

“It’s only a matter of time before you show up uninvited.” Rhea was smug, as if everything happened as she had expected.

“You’re smart, all right,” Alexander complimented.

Rhea grew prouder. “Of course I am. So? Do you want to collaborate with me? We have a thing against the organization. Besides, I can help you rescue Lily. Isn’t my offer tempting enough?”

“You think you can?” Alexander was incredulous.

Rhea nodded but knew he did not believe her. “I can pretend to make a deal with the organization. If I can offer a better alternative, they won’t have to sacrifice Lily. All I need now is someone to lead me to them, and I know you can!”

“You have that much faith in me, huh?” Alexander chuckled. “Do you think I’ll work with you?”

“Why not? I have Cameron Rollins, and you need to save Lily. It’s a win-win situation if we work together. Also, it benefits you more than me, so you have no reason to turn me down.” Rhea was confident he would say yes.
