Ch. 2061..2070

Spoiled by mr. russell chapter 2061-Edward ran toward a corner and slipped into a room, dragging Alexander along. The door shut independently, and the duo soon heard hurried footsteps outside as people rushed by. “Is there really an intruder? How can anyone break in so easily?”

“Didn’t you smell the sedative? There has to be a trespasser somewhere. Come on!” The people’s voices trailed off as they left, seemingly searching for the intruder.

Alexander relaxed and looked at Edward, saying, “Didn’t I tell you to…”

He did not finish his sentence, knowing he would have been in trouble if not for Edward. Although Alexander could handle these men, he could not continue his search for Cameron if he attracted too much attention.

“I was worried about you. Besides, there’s a secret chamber here too. You might not be able to find it if I hadn’t shown up,” Edward whispered, “Anyway, you’re lucky you didn’t try to get into that lab just now.”

Alexander nodded. “I know it requires fingerprints or an iris scan to gain access. I have Lily’s fingerprint, so there shouldn’t be a problem.”

However, Edward shook his head. “Not really. You can’t go in even if you use her fingerprint.”

Alexander was puzzled. “Didn’t Lily conduct her experiments here?

“She spent most of her days here, but they conduct their top-secret and core operations in that lab. It’s impossible to enter without the higher-ups’ fingerprints or irises.”

“Then…”

“Your wife’s fingerprints wouldn’t have worked,” Edward continued, “They wanted her to join them but also didn’t trust her. As far as I know, only someone named Rick, the ‘boss,’ and Rhea Moore could enter.”

“Not even Mike?” Alexander asked after some thought.

“He supervises the experiments here but doesn’t have access. They probably don’t trust him either.”

Alexander felt conflicted with Edward’s words.

‘Indeed, the organization is cautious. They don’t even trust those who work for them. No wonder they abandoned this place.’

“So, we must rely on Rhea to open that door, huh?” Alexander said thoughtfully.

‘The “boss” is dead, and his fingerprints are probably useless now. As for that Rick guy, we have no idea where he is. Still, I have Rhea hostage now. I would’ve created her artificial fingerprint if I knew this would happen.’

“It doesn’t matter. I’m sure Secretary Rollins isn’t inside that lab,” Edward said with certainty.

Alexander frowned. “Why are you so sure?”

Edward nodded and said, “The organization designed that lab to house the most important experiments, so its environment is terrible. Various toxic substances lie inside, and the air circulation is less than ideal.

“If an ordinary person got locked inside there, they would probably die within two days. People used to conduct experiments inside, but there was still some airflow due to people coming in and out.

“With the door locked, I doubt anyone can survive if they’re trapped inside now.”

Spoiled by mr. russell chapter 2062-Rhea kidnapped Cameron to use him as leverage. A live bargaining chip was helpful, as there was no use if the person was dead. She would not bother with such a futile task.

"Well, where else do you think a person may be hiding?" Edward looked at Alexander and said, "I've been thinking about it, and the only place where someone could be hiding is the boss's office.

"Now that the boss is dead and the office is empty, that place is usually off-limits. It should be the most suitable place to hide someone," Edward added with some self-blame, "I'm sorry, it only just occurred to me. Otherwise, I would’ve told you earlier."

"There's still time." Alexander patted Edward’s shoulder and said, "Let's go and take a look now."

There were still scattered footsteps outside, so Edward leaned against the door and listened for a while. Then he said, “Going out from here isn’t suitable. They’ll see us. Let’s go the other way.”

He waited until there was no sound outside before cautiously opening the door slightly to peek outside. Since the corridor was empty, Edward figured they must have gone elsewhere to search for the supposed intruder.

Only then did Edward come out and gesture to Alexander.

Alexander followed suit, and the duo quietly walked along the corridor toward the other end. Although it seemed like a dead end, Alexander kept following Edward since the latter was determined to move forward.

As they neared the end, they suddenly turned a corner and headed in another direction. After entering the new path, Alexander noticed another corner. After turning there, another corner became visible.

The duo turned several times as the place resembled a maze. Suddenly, Edward halted, then jumped, extending his hands in a pushing motion. The cover to a ventilation duct above opened immediately after.

Edward jumped and gripped both sides. Then he forcefully squeezed himself inside before turning around and reaching out his hand to Alexander, saying, “Sorry for the inconvenience.”

Alexander looked up and smiled slightly. "Just move aside a bit."

Edward nodded and moved to the side while Alexander leaped to join Edward quickly. The duo closed the ventilation duct from the inside, leaving no trace of their presence. It was as if they had never been there.

Edward said lowly, "It's dirtier and harder here but safer."

"That's fine. No need for small talk. Is this your first day meeting me?" Alexander questioned in a deep voice. "Start climbing."

Edward nodded and turned around to lead the way by climbing. They could only climb forward in this ventilation duct, but Alexander felt it was not the same duct as before. After all, there was no scent of anesthetics, not even a trace.

Perhaps it was because there were different ventilation ducts that the person from before was unaffected by the anesthetic.

The duo climbed along the duct for a while until they finally stopped. Edward cautiously listened for any movement below, ensuring no one was there. Then he looked down and finally moved a cover aside before jumping down.

Alexander followed and jumped down as well. Immediately after, he put the cover back in its original position.

The duo looked up and turned around to find themselves standing on the outermost side of the research facility.

Spoiled by mr. russell chapter 2063-"You've been through a lot here. It must’ve been tough," Alexander expressed his admiration for Edward.

Edward found such a hidden escape route and learned so many secrets while remaining hidden. Alexander knew it must have been a challenge.

“I just wanted to do something meaningful before I died, but I didn’t expect it to backfire.” Edward felt guilty for nearly causing more trouble for his wife.

“It’s not your fault,” Alexander said. Lily had given him a general account of what had happened, and her last words were for Edward to take care of himself. She also mentioned she would detoxify him when she returned.

However, Edward could not even fulfill that. Instead, he ended up running around with Alexander.

“Sir, this way.” Edward led the way. He did not waste any time since time waited for no one. Since he was familiar with the route, the duo quickly found the “boss’s” office. The previously heavily guarded place was now easy to access.

When the duo exited the elevator and saw no guards, Edward stopped.

“What is it?” Alexander knew he must have discovered something.

After some hesitation, Edward said, “I think there’s nothing here.”

Alexander understood what he meant. There would be guards if someone were here, making it difficult for the duo to enter. Otherwise, the guards could have easily relocated Cameron. After all, Rhea was cunning and would do such a thing.

“Let’s look around since we’re already here,” Alexander said after some thought.

Edward agreed and walked straight into the office, which was in disarray with everything scattered around. The spacious office looked like a tornado had hit it, making it challenging to move around.

Moreover, the door to the secret room was open, visible at a glance.

Edward looked inside and said, “It’s empty.”

Alexander saw it too. Not only was it empty, but it was also filthy. Upon entering, a foul smell permeated the air. He immediately recalled Mike's words and warned Edward, "There might be viral residue here. Be careful."

Startled, Edward became more cautious. He carefully entered, taking every step with caution.

The secret room was not complicated, with no corners for anyone to hide. As for the office, it looked like someone had rummaged through everything. The files and books on the bookshelves were scattered everywhere, with apparent signs of being flipped through.

Alexander casually glanced around and said, "Someone has been through here."

"Rhea?" Edward suggested.

Alexander shook his head and denied it. “Probably not. Look, it seems like someone was searching for something.”

“Was it the organization’s people?”

“It’s possible.”

However, they could only speculate because they lacked evidence. Considering how ransacked the place was, someone had likely taken anything important.

"It seems Secretary Rollins isn't here either." Edward kicked a book on the floor in disappointment. They took a significant risk getting there and ended up with nothing. It felt like their trip was a waste of time and effort.

"I didn't expect whoever it was to pry open the safe too." Edward sighed as he glanced at the safe lying on its side in the corner.

Spoiled by mr. russell chapter 2064-Upon hearing Edward’s words, Alexander looked over and saw the empty safe lying on its side, with the door wide open. It was evident someone had taken its contents.

“Do you know what he stored in that safe?”

Edward shook his head. “It seemed to be some potion or drug that Rhea or the lab staff developed. It could also be a virus, but I’m not sure. I’m not well-versed in the organization’s affairs.”

Although Edward hid in the building for some time, he remained concealed. After all, revealing himself was unsafe, so he had limited access to information.

Alexander approached the safe and squatted before it. Then he touched the safe, carefully examining it.

Edward noticed Alexader's expression and approached. “What’s wrong?”

Alexander did not answer. Instead, he turned to look inside the safe and wore gloves to feel around it. He lightly tapped around the safe as he touched it.

Thud, thud. Click, clack.

“There’s a hidden compartment?!” Edward also noticed something was amiss with the sounds.

Alexander glanced at Edward and remained silent. The former straightened the safe and searched inside until he found a latch. He heard a faint click after exerting a slight force, then opened the compartment.

The compartment was shallow and could not contain much. After feeling around inside, Alexander pulled out a document envelope. It was an important-looking parchment paper document envelope sealed with wax.

"That’s..." Edward was surprised Alexander found something hidden inside. Most importantly, someone had already searched the place, yet the document remained undiscovered.

“Let’s take it with us and examine it later,” Alexander said. He opened his coat and tucked the parchment envelope inside to secure it.

"Okay."

It was not safe to stay there for long. Since Cameron was not there, the duo felt it best to leave quickly.

Two days had passed, and Lily was unusually quiet. She ate and slept as usual as she cooperated with all the treatments. However, her silence was unnerving and gave off an unusual vibe.

Fortunately, the organization brought the children to Lily daily for her to see and hold. Before cooperating with the organization's request, she needed to ensure her children were safe and healthy.

Lily appeared patient on the surface but was calculating deep down. It was almost time, considering the healing process of her cesarean section incision. Her physical condition was excellent, allowing for a relatively quick recovery.

Even so, she was not ready for significant movements yet.

This particular childbirth had exerted excessive strain on Lily’s body. However, now was not the time to focus on recovering peacefully. What awaited her was likely even more intense than a thunderstorm.

Someone pushed the door to the ward open, and Lily instinctively glanced at the wall clock. Considering the time, it was not mealtime or her scheduled injections or medication. As she turned to look at the door, she saw the man entering.

“You look pretty good these past two days.” The man wore a well-tailored suit as he leaned on his cane.

"Has your boss agreed to see me?" Lily did not want to waste time on small talk and cut to the chase. "I can either eat or die now. Whether you want a living and healthy body or a dead and decrepit one is up to you!"

Spoiled by mr. russell chapter 2065 -"You—" Fred was furious, and anger burned in his blue eyes. He took a deep breath and then chuckled dismissively. “Well, satisfying someone on the verge of death is appropriate. It’s your privilege to meet the boss.”

Upon hearing him relent, Lily knew she finally had the opportunity to meet the mastermind behind it all.

However, Fred quickly changed his tone, saying, “But now’s not the time. You should prioritize your recovery. We’ll bring you to him once you’ve recovered naturally.”

Lisa retorted Mockingly, “It’s kind of you to care for the dying.”

Fred noticed her evident sarcasm. He shrugged and indifferently said, “We’re hoping to keep your body healthy for as long as possible.”

Afterward, he turned to leave but seemed to recall something. “Oh, your mister… I mean, your husband seems pretty active lately. He should be attempting to rescue you.”

Fred chose his words carefully and gestured twice with his hand. Then he smiled again and said, “Still, I think he might be wasting his efforts. I know your husband is quite connected with operations in many foreign countries.

“In your country, he's also quite the influential figure. Unfortunately, when it comes down to it, he's just a mere businessman capable of very little!" His words carried a hint of contempt.

Regardless of what he said, Lily showed no reaction. She did not argue or feel ashamed. Her expression remained calm as if she had not heard a thing.

Seeing her lack of response, Fred felt somewhat disappointed and turned to leave.

Lily blinked as she heard the door closing. She knew her husband must be doing everything possible to save her, even though he must face many troubles and dangers.

However, Lily and Alexander had lost all means of communication. Even the doctor she had hinted at twice did not respond, whether due to inconvenience or a lack of news. The inability to exchange information was frustrating.

Lily had no other options besides trust.

Alexander locked himself in his room after returning from the vaccine research facility. He sat at his desk and turned on the light before clearing space on his table. Then he went to wash his hands and returned to his desk.

He took the parchment envelope, carefully opened it, and retrieved a stack of papers from inside. To be precise, they were documents.

Alexander frowned as he read the documents line by line. There were not many, just three pages in total. However, the papers were well-preserved, indicating they had been carefully stored.

The contents written on them surprised Alexander while also providing some clarity.

About one-third of the information was what he had already suspected or investigated. However, the remaining two-thirds were unknown to him. Regardless, the documents proved to be highly useful.

Once he finished reading them, he took a deep breath and leaned back. He closed his eyes and let his brain process the information.

It seemed the “boss” from before had prepared these documents. It was apparent that holding onto this information gave him enough leverage to negotiate terms and demands with the organization.

‘That might be why he chose to be the messenger and received a prominent position in the organization. The “boss” believed he could act with impunity by holding onto this information. Regardless of identity, everyone had to rely on him to establish contact with the organization.

‘The lower organization members can only do so through him. That guy must’ve harbored ambitious and destructive desires, but he never expected to meet his demise at the hands of those he believed he completely controlled.’

Spoiled by mr. russell chapter 2066 -Still, the “boss’s” death was purely a coincidence, an unexpected turn of events.

Meanwhile, Edward’s appearance was an accident.

Lily and Mike had always been cautious and refrained from touching the “boss,” but Edward did not understand or care. Since Edward was on the brink of death, he believed he had to do something before dying—to seek revenge and destroy the evil organization directly.

The protection surrounding the “boss” was not strong, but none dared to harm him. It was not because they could not but because they feared the consequences. Therefore, when Edward, who disregarded all consequences, appeared, he broke the first barrier.

Subsequently, Lily and Mike had to go along with the situation. Furthermore, the boss never expected to become an outcast in the organization, as they simply abandoned him. Of course, it was also possible the organization had learned about the situation and intentionally let it slide.

Although the organization had been wary of what the boss held, the organization was pleased with the outcome when the boss got captured and seemingly destined to die. The organization did not need to get its hands dirty and could rest assured once the boss died.

Later, Rhea tested a different experimental poison on the boss, leading to his demise. These events seemed coincidental when connected, but they also seemed destined.

‘So, when the “boss” died, the organization’s people probably ransacked his office. However, the organization didn’t get these documents. By a stroke of luck, they ended up with me instead.’

When Alexander opened his eyes again, he rechecked the documents and returned them to the parchment envelope. Then he got up and went to open the hidden compartment in his bookcase to place the envelope there.

‘I’ve already guessed and investigated the situation, but I never expected the mastermind to be him! This person is troublesome after all.’

Edward, who had been waiting outside, looked anxious as he opened the door. He took a step forward upon seeing his boss. “Alex…”

Frankly, Edward would rarely be anxious. Instead, he was taciturn and followed Alexander’s orders without question, but it was different this time as it personally concerned him.

Since Alexander found the documents in the “boss’s” office, perhaps they were related to the organization or virus. However, Edward only appeared visibly eager without asking about it.

Alexander glanced at him indifferently and shook his head. “There’s no useful information in those documents.”

Edward could not conceal his disappointment. “I see…”

“They consist of experimental data, but they seem abandoned. Maybe the organization wanted to keep them for future use but didn’t expect so many other things to happen…”

Alexander did not intend to finish his sentence. After all, the “boss” had already died, so keeping the data was pointless.

Alexander was not intentionally hiding anything from Edward. It was just that the matter was of great importance and involved too many things.

‘The fewer people know about this, the better. It’ll be safer for Edward if he doesn’t know.’

Spoiled by mr. russell chapter 2067-While Alexander considered going to Rhea to inquire about Cameron’s whereabouts, someone came to him voluntarily. "Mr. Russell."

Alexander recognized the person as Cameron’s personal guard. More precisely, this person was Cameron’s undercover guard. Typically such a person would go unnoticed by ordinary people. Still, Alexander had seen this person once or twice after becoming close to Cameron.

Marcus was a first-class guard. When Alexander saw him, he knew there must be some news about Cameron’s whereabouts.

Marcus glanced around and asked, “Can we talk in private?”

He would appear ordinary if he were in a crowd and did not stand out. However, Alexander knew he possessed formidable abilities. Not only was Marcus skilled in combat, but he was also well-versed in various weapons.

Marcus being by Cameron’s side ensured the latter had all-rounded protection. Therefore, when Rhea kidnapped Cameron, the latter had intended for it to happen. Otherwise, Rhea could not have taken Cameron under Marcus’s watchful eyes.

Alexander nodded. "I was getting to that."

After sending away the servants and asking Edward to leave for the time being, Alexander led Marcus into his study, closed the door, and then spoke up. "Has there been any news about Secretary Rollins?"

Marcus nodded. "Secretary Rollins sent me to find you."

When Alexander heard that, he felt like a massive weight had fallen off his shoulders. He sighed in relief. “Then where is he now?”

Marcus removed something from his pocket and handed it to Alexander, saying, “He can’t come in person, but he instructed me to give this to you. He said you might find it helpful.”

Alexander lowered his head and glanced at it, momentarily stunned. "This is..."

"He said he knows what you want to do, but due to his identity and the current situation, it's not suitable for him to come here. Therefore, there are some things only you can handle."

As Marcus conveyed these words, Alexander could almost imagine how Cameron would say them in his typical cold and detached manner.

"All right!" Alexander put away the item and looked at Marcus. "Please tell Secretary Rollins I have received and understood his message. I will handle it."

Marcus nodded, seemingly about to leave.

However, Alexander called out to him. "Wait. Is Cameron doing well under the current circumstances?"

Marcus turned back to face Alexander and nodded slightly. "Thank you for your concern, Mr. Russell. Secretary Rollins is doing well at the moment, both in terms of his health and overall situation. Please rest assured."

Alexander felt relieved upon hearing that. It seemed he had been overly worried. Cameron had indeed made thorough arrangements for himself, and Alexander did not need to worry.

Then Alexander thought of something else, adding, "Please inform Cameron that his daughter’s in the hospital. I’ve made arrangements, but they shouldn't meet temporarily due to the potentially infectious nature of her illness.

“Still, please rest assured. There’s no immediate life-threatening danger."

Moreover, Dominic had already promised to treat Anastasia as soon as possible. On top of that, Anastasia was a few links away from the primary source. Therefore, the infectiousness should not be extreme.

"Understood." Marcus nodded, slightly dazed, and left.

Perhaps he feared Alexander would call him back, so he asked, "Is there anything else you'd want me to convey?"

Alexander shook his head. "No, that's all. Thank you for coming."

Spoiled by mr. russell chapter 2068-“Of course.” Marcus acknowledged and finally left.

Afterward, Alexander looked at the item Marcus handed him.

It was a passport, or to put it bluntly, a document that would allow Alexander smooth access to the Yudonia embassy. Moreover, Cameron had also written a note for Alexander, besides the passport, stating that Alexander was a friend and requesting the other party to receive him well.

Although the passport seemed ordinary, it was a tremendous help to Alexander. Although he had already found out about the embassy, it was not somewhere one could enter freely. That was why he had taken so long to look for a solution.

The passport and note Cameron gave Alexander was timely assistance.

‘Things will go much smoother with these.’

On the fifth day after giving birth, Lily felt her body had recovered quite a bit. The pain from her wound was no longer as prominent. Of course, vigorous movements still caused some discomfort. Still, it was much better than before.

Occasionally, she would get out of bed and walk around the room, trying to expedite her recovery. After all, if her body did not recover quickly, it would affect many future things.

The ward door suddenly opened as she supported her waist and slowly walked around the room. Following that, a few people entered with a wheelchair.

Lily turned and asked, "What are you doing?"

No one answered. Instead, these people approached Lily, held her on both sides and blindfolded her before setting her down in the wheelchair. Then they began pushing her toward the exit.

Lily initially felt panicked but quickly calmed down.

However, these people’s methods seemed somewhat laughable.

‘It’s the same routine—blindfold me and take me from one place to another. They’re constantly shifting me to different locations. Do they think they can avoid suspicion and keep their true intentions hidden by doing this?’

Indeed, their methods might have been effective initially, and the constant location changes made it difficult to track them. However, Lily noticed patterns and routines after several repetitions.

Previously, Lily was curious about the organization’s background and power, which made many wary and unable to move freely. But after staying there for so many days, Lily began to understand how they worked.

‘Are they taking me to see Fred again or the mastermind?’

Lily still had a hint of anticipation.

Whether due to the long journey or intentional circling, it took a considerable amount of time before they arrived at their destination.

When they finally stopped, Lily figured the others had left her alone in the wheelchair. The surroundings were spacious, suggesting the place was not small and had no excessive furnishings.

She listened carefully and confirmed there was no one around. She raised her hand and removed the blindfold. Her eyes took a moment to adjust to the light, and she instinctively raised her hand to shield her eyes.

Then she heard a hoarse and aged voice saying, "Hello, Ms. Christian."

Spoiled by mr. russell chapter 2069-Upon hearing the voice, Lily paused and then opened her eyes, quickly locating the source of the sound. Her surroundings were full of chairs, with no unnecessary items. Right in front of her was a large folding screen from which the voice came.

Lily looked ahead while calmly sitting in the wheelchair. She spoke mockingly, “Aren’t you proud? You think you control everything by manipulating others and making them go in circles?”

The person sighed. “No, that’s not what I meant. I admire you, Ms. Christian.”

"Oh?" Lily raised an eyebrow and smiled. "Do you admire my talent, abilities, or my body?"

There was a moment of silence on the other end. The person seemed to contemplate something before slowly responding, "All of them."

"Well, I'm honored! So, you’ll take my body once it has recovered, right?" Lily glanced down at her body as if it no longer belonged to her but was merely an item she could trade or give away.

"Ms. Christian, I didn't want things to develop into this situation, but there's no other way. I sincerely apologize to you. If you have any wishes or needs for compensation or unfulfilled desires, I can fulfill them." The person spoke politely.

If Lily were a fool, she would think the person was kind and generous. However, she knew what they were planning to do. She sneered and said, “Is that so?”

"I promise!"

"All right then, I want to stay alive. I don't want to give you my body. I want to leave this place and make you abandon all your harmful experiments. Can you do that?" Lily spoke in one breath without any pauses.

There was a moment of contemplation on the other end, followed by silence. Only the sound of heavy and rough echoed.

"Ms. Christian, you're deliberately making things difficult. You know I can't do that."

"In that case, don't make grand promises, saying you can fulfill any wish. It's just empty talk!" Lily sneered. Of course, she knew they could not fulfill her request and that it was easy to make bold claims.

"But you mentioned harmful experiments earlier?" The voice sounded puzzled and confused.

"What, do you think you're conducting life-saving experiments? Don't delude yourself!" Lily heard no sound behind the folding screen. It was as if something had abruptly cut off the connection.

Lily found it strange, tilted her head, and carefully observed. She could not sense anyone behind the small gap in the folding screen, so she stood up and approached it. Still, no one came out to stop her.

She reached the side of the screen and peered behind it, but no one was there.

Spoiled by mr. russell chapter 2070-More precisely, a hidden speaker was behind the folding screen, and the voice Lily heard came from it. Indeed, the organization was cunning.

Although they had brought Lily here, they still refused to reveal their identities. However, it did not matter whether or not they appeared. Lily knew the person she conversed with was the one behind everything.

As she picked up the speaker to examine it, an urgent and sharp voice sounded, “What harmful experiments are you talking about?”

Lily was startled, and the speaker almost slipped from her hands due to the loudness. She quickly placed it on a nearby chair and stepped back while looking at it.

“If you want to know, why don’t we speak face-to-face? We’ve already come this far, so why feign ignorance?”

“I… Can’t appear in person.” The person paused before slowly continuing, “I’m genuinely sorry for the harm you’ve endured, Ms. Christian. It wasn’t my intention, but I had no other choice.

“I had to do it, considering the bigger picture. I don’t expect you to understand, but I want to express my sincerest apologies.”

Lily found it amusing, especially the ‘sincerity’ part. “First, you tell someone you’ll take their life and use their corpse, and then you apologize to them. Is that your country’s etiquette? How intriguing.”

Another voice came from the speaker, “You’ve gone too far, Lily!”

Lily paused momentarily. Although both voices went through a voice changer, she knew the latter’s voice belonged to Fred, whom she had met several times.

After realizing that, she said smilingly, “Did I go too far? I helped you develop R10 and offered to use my body as a vessel to serve you. But now you’re unhappy? Am I the one who went too far?

“Besides, I haven’t even said much.” Lily sighed and sat on the closest chair to her. “Why don’t you tell me why you brought me here? Is it to alleviate your guilt? You don’t need to bother since people like you don’t know what guilt is.”

“Ms. Christian, I understand your anger, but I swear I will take good care of your children. I will provide them with the best education, give them a noble status, and ensure they live worry-free lives filled with honor and wealth. Whether you believe it or not, I will make it happen! I promise!"

The voice sounded eager, as if that would make Lily compromise.

She looked down and said, “You’re afraid my body will reject it, right? Perhaps you fear my conscious will resist too strongly, and the final results won’t be what you desire?”

Once again, there was no response.

However, Lily had expected this. She shrugged and smiled, saying, "If you're so concerned, why insist on this experiment? Aren't you afraid it’ll fail and yield results opposite your desires?"

The person sighed. "Of course, I know that, but there's...no other way!"

The person sounded resigned.

Lily lifted her gaze and tilted her head slightly as if someone was in the room's upper corner. "Are you running out of time, your Majesty?"
