Chapter 2288
Robert made another call. Before long, a nanny arrived and took Felix away to play.
The moment Felix left, the warmth on Robert’s face disappeared.
What replaced it was cold enough to freeze the room.
“That Miranda definitely has a problem!”
Earlier, when he saw the photos online, he hadn’t fully believed them.
Now he did.
“Send people to investigate Miranda and that man. Thoroughly.” Robert pointed at the man’s photo on his phone as he gave the order to the secretary who had just returned.
The secretary nodded repeatedly. “Yes, sir. We’ve already started. It shouldn’t take long.”
Robert gave a curt nod.
“And one more thing. Keep a close watch on the company. We can’t leave everything in her hands.”
“Yes, sir.” Caliste nodded again.
Robert issued a few more instructions. Only after everything was arranged did he close his eyes to rest.
At the same time, Miranda had been on edge all day.
She didn’t dare go home. Instead, she found a quiet restaurant and called the man.
“What am I supposed to do? Felix won’t go with me.”
“If he won’t go, then forget it. The two of us can just leave. Bringing a child along would only complicate things.” The moment he heard Felix refused, the man let out a long breath.
Miranda’s brows tightened.
“How can you say that? He’s my son. I carried him for ten months and gave birth to him. I’m not leaving him with the Rainsworth family.”
“You promised me before—you said you’d accept Felix. If not, I never would’ve gotten involved with you.”
Ever since becoming a mother, Miranda had always put her son first.
Hearing the shift in her tone, the man quickly backtracked.
“You’ve got me wrong. Of course I want you and Felix to come with me. But you said it yourself—he won’t go.”
“Then what am I supposed to do?” Miranda snapped, frustration rising.
“Then we’ll have to find another way. To avoid more trouble, you should come abroad with me first. As for Felix, we can figure out how to bring him over later,” the man said, trying to calm her.
Miranda let out a long breath.
“Looks like that’s the only option.”
She stared out the window, the strain on her face growing harder to hide.
Just then, her phone rang.
She thought it was him calling back, but when she checked, it was Adrian.
“What do you want?” she snapped the moment she answered.
On the other end, Adrian paused, clearly caught off guard by her tone.
“N-nothing. I just wanted to ask why you’re not home yet.”
Miranda glanced at the time.
It was already close to nine.
“I’m out handling business. I’m not coming back tonight.”
She hung up immediately.
Miranda hadn’t eaten.
She stood up and headed straight for the airport.
Later that night, a little after ten.
At the hospital, Robert held a thick stack of documents.
Every page detailed Miranda and the man.
His name was Julian.
According to the investigation, he was a distant relative of the Leighton family—though not related by blood.
He had come to Tudela five years ago.
Since then, he had frequently approached Miranda whenever he needed something handled.
Caliste stepped in, his expression grave.
“Sir, we had professionals examine the photograph. It hasn’t been altered. It’s real.”
The words landed heavily, and the room fell silent.
Robert nearly blacked out from the shock.
His fist clenched tightly.
“Go. Send people immediately. Bring her back.”
That shameless woman…
She had actually dared to do something like this.
Robert slammed his fist down on the bedside table.
Bang. Bang.
Caliste hurried out to make arrangements to capture Miranda.
